Daphne du Maurier was born on May 13, 1907 in London. Daphne’s
family was quite famous. Her father was Gerald du Maurier was a famous actor.
Her grandfather was a famous writer by the name of George L. du Maurier, who
wrote the novel “Trilby”. Daphne’s first novel “The Loving Spirit” was
published in 1931. She is well known for her novel “Rebecca” which was
published in 1940. “Rebecca” was made into a film by Alfred Hitchcock. The film
was a success and won Best Picture Oscar in 1940. She was known for many famous
novels such as “Jamaica Inn”, “Frenchman’s Creek” and “Don’t Look Now” that was
also made into a film. She married Lt. General Sir Frederick Browning in 1932.
Daphne and Frederick had three children. She died on April 19, 1989.
